Some FAQ's

Do I have to be a club member to enter?

No, entry is open to anyone. Financial club members do get a special discount, and AFSS members also get one.

Can anyone come and watch?

Sure, come and cheer on your favorite dog, and all the others as well.

Are there discounts for entering multiple races?

Yes, if you enter both races of the same type (Rambler, Rush, or Stinger) you'll get 10% off. If you enter all 6 races you'll get 20% off + the BBQ. Financial club members get a special discount.

What are the race "rules"?

Races will be run under the AFSS rules and regulations.

What race categories are there?

For our first year, we will simply have men's, women's, juniors and open categories.

How fit do I need to be?

You should be reasonably fit for the event you intend to enter. The "rush" races would probably be all running, the "ramble and the stinger" races would probably involve some hiking. Having stated that, you are welcome to hike anytime.

Are there age restrictions on dogs?

Dogs need to be 12 months old to enter into the canicross races. Younger pups can give some of the course a go (at your own risk) after the event has been run.

What vaccination requirements are there for dogs?

Dogs need to be vaccinated, minimum C3 and Kennel Cough, or have a recent titre test (within 12 months)

What about the weather?

Unless it's really bad, we intend to race. Some say a bit of rain gives it extra character or challenge. If it's really bad we will try to reschedule the race.

What type of race start will be used?

It will vary. For the Strickland Stinger the trail being used is all single track, so entrants will be seeded and started at 30-second intervals (fastest first). For the others, it will depend on the number of entrants, we may use a mass start or a couple of small "wave" starts.

Please note that trails, distances etc may be changed for safety, weather conditions etc
